When Jay and Penny were dating, they visited Snow Farm Vineyard while on a mini-vacation in the Champlain Islands.

As Penny purchased wine to take home, Jay took in the views of the vineyard and mountains.

Before Penny knew it, he was asking the staff if it was possible to get married at Snow Farm.

“I was like, we’re not even engaged!” Penny laughed.

Both in their 50s and previously married; neither one thought they would get married again. Yet, something about Snow Farm started the wheels in motion!

We recently chatted with the couple about why they chose Snow Farm for their vineyard wedding.

A Shoreline Vineyard Wedding

Snow Farm has three options for wedding ceremony locations; atop Fox Hill, alongside the vineyard, or on the shores of Lake Champlain.

Jay and Penny got engaged in the Bahamas during a romantic getaway. Because of that, they knew that water had to be part of their wedding day.

“Snow Farm is right on the water in Crescent Bay, and when we saw the arbor in front of the water and the lawn by the bed and breakfast, we said, ‘this is perfect,'” Penny recalled of when they visited Snow Farm again to scope out the location as a wedding venue.

The weather gods were on their side, and they got married on September 3, 2022, on a sunny, 78-degree day.

After their lakeshore ceremony, they celebrated the day  with 40 of their closest friends and family members. The reception area at Snow Farm is conveniently within walking distance across the road from the lakeside ceremony area.

Rows of grape vines and the Green Mountains are the backdrop behind the white tent. Though Jay and Penny’s wedding was small, the space can accommodate up to 200 guests.

“It was absolutely flawless, and it isn’t just about the weather; it’s about the staff, and it’s about the amazing vendor relationships they have, and everything that is Snow Farm,” Jay said.

Soaking it in: On-Site Accommodations

Snow Farm Inn at Crescent Bay, across from the vineyard, is a charming and convenient option for couples and their wedding party to stay. There are four rooms, each with its own private bath. Jay and Penny took advantage of the opportunity.

“You can make a whole weekend of it and rent the bed and breakfast, enjoy the scenery and relax. You’re kind of out of the mainstream, so that makes it nicer that you feel secluded,” Penny shared.

The couple also held their rehearsal dinner at Snow Farm and served wood-fired pizza with bar service by Snow Farm. The Snow Farm staff at the rehearsal also worked at the wedding and added special touches.

“After we had our ceremony, we were going to the tent, and the bartender greeted us with drinks we had been drinking the night before. It was amazing that she remembered that,” Penny said. “They were just amazing and so thoughtful.”

A Vineyard Wedding to Remember

Penny and Jay say that one of the best parts about having a vineyard wedding is being able to go back to the spot where you were married to enjoy each other’s company. They’re now members of the Snow Farm Vineyard wine club and regulars at the summertime Music in the Vinyard concert series.

“It’s just such a beautiful spot,” Penny said.
